Hyperkalaemia associated w/ anuria & severe oliguria; patients requiring dialysis & on regular haemodialysis or prolonged peritoneal dialysis.

Adult Oral 15 g tid-qid. Rectal 30 g once daily. Childn Oral Initially 1 g/kg body wt daily in 3-4 divided doses. Maintenance dose: 0.5 g/kg body wt daily in 3-4 divided doses. Rectal Same as adult dose. Infant Rectal 0.5-1 g/kg body wt.

Obstructive bowel disease; conditions associated w/ hypercalcemia eg, hyperparathyroidism, multiple myeloma, sarcoidosis, metastatic carcinoma.

Discontinue if constipation occurs; do not use Mg-containing laxatives. Avoid aspiration which may lead to bronchopulmonary complication. Concomitant use w/ Al hydroxide & digoxin. Do not treat rapidly severe hyperkalemia alone. Pregnancy & lactation.
